Websites
Llandaff News
This community news blog began as an experiment to get to know my new neighbourhood in late 2009 whilst keeping my online skills up to date. The project began with a modest Twitter feed, @LlandaffNews, then grew into a self-hosted site using Wordpress. As a one-woman operation, I designed the site to operate with low maintenance with maximum news content. The site uses some clever RSS feeds, inlcuding Flickr, Delicious, and TheyWorkForYou. In 2011, the project ended, however the site remains as an archive for the community.
ITV Wales blog
This blog was originally created by the online team in 2010 as a solution to a creaky CMS on the main ITV.com site. The team used Wordpress.com, which means the site has limitations on customisation and content. The original site design and use of widgets was not playing to the strengths of the online output. I plugged in a new design in 2011 that allowed ITV Wales to use its logo and create a more professional space. Strong content now features for longer on the home page and social media accounts are given more attention above the fold. Within posts, greater attention is given to unique content and opportunities to embed it with other media, such as Scribd documents.
Live blogs
Pontypridd constituency debate on April 27 2010 (WalesOnline)
This live blog was the only comprehensive news coverage for this debate during the May 2010 general election. The debate was the only public forum where all MP candidates were present. The live blog was originally published on yourponty, a local blog that no longer exists within the WalesOnline site.
Why conserve? Live blogging the debate on Cardiff conservation (WalesOnline)
This live blog was published on yourcardiff as an in-class exercise by students in my MA-level online journalism class at the University of Glamorgan. I acted as the producer of the live blog, two students attended the debate as field reporters, and the remaining students stayed in class to act as researchers and assistant producers.
